The day of the dead falls so close to Halloween that you can probably get away with getting these decorations up now and double up on their enjoyment. If you’d like to celebrate Dia de Los Muertos this year, I’ve got some great ideas for you. The Dia de los Muertos skull, or commonly known as a Sugar Skull/Day of the Dead Skull/that skull thing from the film Coco, is a wonderful colourful piece of art that anyone can draw. Plus there’s delicious food and drink involved. What do I love about the holiday? Well, not only do I love learning about other cultures and their traditions – but I also love the bright colors and the sugar skulls ( calaveras) that people use in the crafts surrounding Day of the Dead. It’s definitely about celebrating lives lost rather than mourning. Find high-quality royalty-free vector images that you won't find anywhere else. If you're drawing traditionally, trace the skull to a new sheet of paper with a pencil. If you're drawing digitally, just place it as a layer with low opacity. Feel free to use an illustration from my tutorial How to Draw a Skull. It could be a photo of a real skull or a drawing. Potential ways to participate include building altars ( ofrendas) for dead relatives, setting up special decorations in honor of them, and visiting their graves to burn candles or leave offerings.
